A specific, gentle chiropractic analysis and adjustment designed to balance the maternal pelvis and optimize space for your baby.

The Webster Technique is a highly specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), this technique is primarily used during pregnancy to help establish and maintain pelvic balance and alignment.
When a mother's pelvis is misaligned (a condition called sacral subluxation), it can cause uneven pulling and tension on the surrounding uterine ligaments. This tension restricts the amount of room available for the developing baby, a condition known as intrauterine constraint.
The Webster Technique is designed to relieve this tension, restoring normal biomechanics to the pelvis. By optimizing the pelvic environment, this technique allows the baby the maximum amount of space to move, grow, and naturally assume the best possible position for birth.
The pelvis is a ring of bones supported by a complex network of muscles and ligaments, including the round ligaments that attach directly to the uterus. During pregnancy, the hormone relaxin softens these ligaments, making the joints more susceptible to misalignment from everyday activities or postural changes.
The Webster Technique involves a two-step process. First, the chiropractor performs a specific analysis to determine which side of the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of the spine) is misaligned. They then administer a gentle, targeted adjustment to correct that specific joint dysfunction.
Second, the chiropractor addresses the soft tissues. By applying light, sustained pressure to specific trigger points on the round ligaments and surrounding abdominal muscles, the tension in the uterus is released. This combined approach of structural alignment and soft tissue relaxation effectively restores balance to the entire pelvic bowl.
While the Webster Technique is most famous for its use during pregnancy, it is actually beneficial for anyone experiencing sacral or pelvic dysfunction. However, it is primarily sought out by expectant mothers.
Ideal Candidates Include:
Contraindications: The Webster Technique is exceptionally safe. However, women experiencing high-risk pregnancy complications such as vaginal bleeding, placenta previa, or preeclampsia should always consult with their OB-GYN or midwife before receiving any physical therapies.
During a Webster Technique session, we use specialized pregnancy pillows that allow you to lie face down safely and comfortably, fully supporting your belly. The analysis involves gently checking the leg lengths to identify sacral misalignment.
The adjustment itself uses very light force—there is no heavy twisting or cracking. You will also experience light massage or sustained pressure on the round ligaments near your lower abdomen. The entire process is relaxing and usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Recovery and Downtime: There is no downtime. Most mothers report feeling immediate relief from pelvic pressure and a greater sense of balance and lightness when they stand up.
Recommended Sessions: If you are seeking care because your baby is breech late in pregnancy, more frequent visits (2-3 times a week) may be recommended initially to quickly establish balance. For general prenatal wellness, weekly or bi-weekly visits are common.
