    Round Ligament Pain

Gentle balancing of the pelvis and ligaments to relieve sharp pains.

    Round Ligament Pain

    What It Is

Round ligament pain is a common complaint during pregnancy, often described as a sharp, sudden spasm or achy pain in the lower belly or groin area. The round ligaments support the uterus, and as your baby grows, these ligaments stretch and thicken to accommodate the expanding uterus.

Our chiropractic care focuses on gently balancing the pelvis and releasing tension in the round ligaments. When the pelvis is misaligned, it can cause the round ligaments to pull unevenly, leading to spasms and sharp pain, especially when you change positions quickly, cough, or sneeze.

By utilizing the Webster Technique and targeted soft tissue therapies, we restore proper pelvic biomechanics, reducing the strain on the round ligaments and providing you with much-needed relief.

    How It Works

The round ligaments act like ropes holding the uterus in place. If the pelvis (the foundation) is twisted or misaligned, the "ropes" are pulled taut on one side and slack on the other, causing discomfort and spasms.

We use the Webster Technique to carefully analyze and gently adjust the sacrum and pelvis. Following the adjustment, we apply a very light, sustained pressure to the round ligaments themselves (located near the front of the pelvis) to release any remaining tension or spasms.

This combination of structural alignment and soft tissue release restores balance to the pelvis, allowing the round ligaments to support the uterus evenly without painful spasms.

    Who It's For

This care is ideal for pregnant women, particularly in their second trimester when round ligament pain is most common, who are experiencing sharp, sudden pains in the lower abdomen or groin.

    Ideal Candidates Include:

    • Expectant mothers with sharp pain in the lower belly when rolling over in bed or standing up quickly.
    • Women experiencing achy, pulling sensations in the groin area.
    • Mothers seeking to optimize their pelvic alignment for comfort and delivery.

Contraindications: While chiropractic care is exceptionally safe, always consult with your OB-GYN if you experience severe abdominal pain, bleeding, or cramping, as these could be signs of a more serious condition.

    What to Expect

During your visit, we ensure you are completely comfortable using specialized pregnancy pillows. The pelvic adjustments are very gentle, and the round ligament release involves only light, sustained pressure—never deep or painful massage.

Recovery and Downtime: There is no downtime. Most women feel immediate relief from the pulling and tightness in their lower abdomen.

Recommended Sessions: A few targeted sessions often provide significant relief. We may recommend periodic maintenance visits to keep the pelvis balanced as your baby continues to grow.
